About the space
A beautiful and characterful two bedroom Fishermans Cottage nestled in the heart of Lymington only a few minutes stroll from the pretty cobbled Quay and the historic High Street.
Sailmaker’s Cottage is a bright and stylish home which has been completely refurbished. There are two cosy bedrooms with a choice of bed layout, an open plan lounge and dining room, a new fully equipped kitchen and a sunny private garden. Road parking available and we also supply a local parking permit.
Inside
A great space to relax and unwind after a busy day! We’ve completely refurbished the cottage with a mix of modern and rustic vintage furnishings with a mission to make our guests feel special – we hope you enjoy the space as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
Sailmaker’s Cottage has an open plan lounge and dining room – a great sociable space with comfy sofas and a chunky farmhouse dining table with seating for four. There’s an HD TV, free unlimited WiFi and Netflix.
The new kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need including gas hob, oven with grill, dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge freezer with water dispenser, kettle, toaster etc. We have a Nespresso coffee machine and supply a few pods to get you started. We love the midnight blue cupboards, brass handles, handmade metro tiles and oak floors.
The travertine bathroom has a bath with rain head shower over and a heated floor. Towels included.
We love to welcome families and have a few things to make it easier – a travel cot & mattress (please bring your own babies bedding), a high chair and kids plates & cutlery. Please note the original cottage stairs are quite steep and aren’t compatible with a stair gate – we recommend little ones are supervised.
Inside the cottage we have a guide book including a long list of our favourite places to eat, drink and days out nearby.
Sleeping
The master bedroom has two layout options – either a king sized bed or two single beds. We’ll lay out a king bed as standard but please let us know on booking if you’d prefer the single bed layout.
Bedroom two is a cosy room with a double bed.
Both bedrooms have extra deep pocket sprung mattresses with quality high thread count linen, wardrobes and chests of drawers.
Outside
There’s a private sunny garden (shingle) with a great swing bench for enjoying a morning coffee. We also have an outdoor table & chairs and BBQ. Bike storage is available in the secure locked shed.
Parking
Parking is usually available on the road (please note it’s non-permit). We also supply a free long stay parking permit to be used about five minutes walk away. The permit can also be used for free parking in approximately 30 car parks across the New Forest – great for exploring!

“Fab little cottage with a brilliant kitchen and very comfy beds! Great location, just a five minute walk up the road and round the corner to the Quay. We could get to all the best local spots within short drives. Highly recommend Ober Water in the New Forest… Such a beautiful and magical spot. Very near to the ferry for the Isle of Wight and a 20 minute drive to the gorgeous Highcliffe Beach in Christchurch. Our host was very helpful with regular check-ins and offers of help if we needed it. Will definitely be back!”
“We had an amazing few days in the New Forest. Loved the cottage, clean, gorgeous, so comfortable and close to quay/town centre. Great restaurants. David and Claire perfect hosts – great communication. Would highly recommend this beautiful part of the U.K.”
“Very clean, stylish and very thoughtful touches such as Nest heating, Netflix, Nespresso and a washer dryer. Perfect location and the host leaves lots of information about the local area. Brilliant accommodation.”
“Charming cottage in a fantastic location! We recently spent three nights in this cottage. The photos absolutely do it justice as it is fresh, clean and beautifully decorated. The beds are comfortable and the bath is properly deep – perfect for a soak after the walk along the spit to and from Hurst Castle! The location is excellent – literally a few minutes walk to the quay and the cobbled lanes in the old part of town. There is a good choice of cafes – including a proper ice-cream parlour – and with a Tesco Metro within walking distance and a Waitrose a short drive away, lots of choice for self catering. Being the New Forest, nothing is very far from anywhere and we were easily able to go to the places we wanted to see.”
“We had a great family break here with our two daughters, aged 10 and 8. The space was just right for us after busy days out and about. The cottage is lovely inside and in a great location for everything you need. Hosts were great too and we’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a base in the New Forest and nearby coastline.”
“A charming little cottage near the Quay. Sailmaker’s Cottage is a charming holiday home. A lot of thought has obviously gone into choosing the right furniture and décor. It’s only a few minutes walk away from the lovely quay and the High Street with its many interesting and diverse shops.”
“Extremely well located and very clean and well appointed cottage 5 mins from Lymington harbour and 2 mins from the train station. David and Claire were excellent hosts – friendly, prompt in responding and clearly proud to maintain the standards of their place and seek to ensure their guests have everything they need for their stay. The Netflix subscription came in handy in the evenings and they provided lots of helpful recommendations for the local area and its pubs and restaurants. Definitely recommended for a family of 4!”
“Lucky to be one of the first to stay at Sailmakers Cottage. Fab 5 nights, all the fixtures/fittings were to a very high standard. The decor is modern and facilities well thought out. (Area at back door for shoes/wellies) hooks for coats, large fridge/freezer and well equipped kitchen area. Slept like babies in gorgeous beds/bedding. Location is fantastic hardly went out in the car. Would definitely book again.”
“David’s place, Sailmaker’s Cottage, is beautiful. The location is perfect for exploring Lymington and the rest of the New Forest. The communication was faultless and check in was a breeze Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful New Forest break”
“Great place to stay short walk to Quayside atmospheric, near plenty of shops and restaurants. Property immaculate, tastefully furnished, loved the parking pass.”
